BRIEF BIOGRAPHY OF THE MOST VENERABLE TH\u00cdCH NH\u01af \u0110I\u1ec2N, FOUNDER OF VI\u00caN GI\u00c1C TEMPLE IN GERMANY<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The Most Venerable Th\u00edch Nh\u01b0 \u0110i\u1ec3n was born on June 28, 1949, in Xuy\u00ean M\u1ef9 Commune, Duy Xuy\u00ean District, Qu\u1ea3ng Nam Province, Vietnam. A highly educated individual with knowledge of multiple languages, he has composed and translated approximately 73 works in Vietnamese, English, Chinese, Japanese, and German, primarily focusing on Buddhist topics.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/p>\n

He currently serves as the Second President of the Executive Council of the Unified Vietnamese Buddhist Congregation in Europe, President of the Central Tripitaka Translation Committee of the Unified Vietnamese Buddhist Congregation, and as Vice President of the World Buddhist Sangha Council (WBSC).<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"In 1964, he began his monastic life at Ph\u01b0\u1edbc L\u00e2m Temple in H\u1ed9i An and was ordained as a novice monk in 1967. <\/span><\/strong><\/span>He initially attended 7th grade at Di\u00ean H\u1ed3ng High School in H\u1ed9i An, Qu\u1ea3ng Nam Province. When Bodhi H\u1ed9i An School was established in 1965, he enrolled there in 6th grade. From 1965 to 1968, while studying at Bodhi School, he consistently ranked at the top of his classes. From 1969 to 1970, he completed \u201cSecond Grade\u201d (equivalent to today\u2019s 11th Grade) at Republic High School, under Principal Ph\u1ea1m V\u0103n V\u1eadn, and passed his Baccalaureate I examination that same year.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\nFrom 1970 to 1971, he transferred to Professor Tr\u1ea7n B\u00edch Lan\u2019s Literature High School to complete 12th Grade (Track A). During that period, he passed Baccalaureate II (equivalent to today\u2019s high school diploma). On February 22, 1972, he traveled to Japan to study. He earned a Bachelor\u2019s degree in Education and a Master\u2019s degree in Buddhist Studies at Teikyo University and Risso University in Tokyo. He arrived in Germany on April 22, 1977, initially on a tourist visa, but subsequently applied for asylum there. He spent one year in Kiel studying German at the University of Kiel, then relocated to Hannover for postgraduate studies in education, and has resided in Germany ever since. <\/span><\/strong><\/span>
\nEstablishing a Presence in Germany After settling in Germany, on April 2, 1978, the Venerable Th\u00edch Nh\u01b0 \u0110i\u1ec3n initially founded a small temple on Kestnerstr. In 1980, he moved to Eichelkamp, where the Vi\u00ean Gi\u00e1c newspaper began publication. Vi\u00ean Gi\u00e1c has now been published regularly for 46 years, totaling 266 issues. Throughout this time, the Venerable Master has consistently received financial support from the German Federal Government, enabling him to pay monthly rent and sustain Vi\u00ean Gi\u00e1c newspaper.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

The 4 Abbots of Vi\u00ean Gi\u00e1c Temple in Hannover from 2003 to 2025 include: Senior Venerable Th\u00edch H\u1ea1nh T\u1ea5n (2003-2008), Master of German Religion and completed the Ph.D program in India. The person standing on the far right is Senior Venerable Th\u00edch H\u1ea1nh Gi\u1edbi, the second Abbot (2008-2017), Doctor of Religious Studies, at Hannover University. The person standing on the last left is: Venerable Th\u00edch H\u1ea1nh B\u1ed5n, the Third Abbot (2018-2022), Master of German. The remaining person is: Senior Venerable Th\u00edch H\u1ea1nh \u0110\u1ecbnh, the Fourth Abbot (2022 -\u2026..).<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

In April 1978, he also established the Vi\u00ean Gi\u00e1c Buddhist Temple in Hannover. Since then, he has conferred the Triple Refuge upon over 7,000 Vietnamese devotees and hundreds of Germans, guiding them to embrace Buddhism. The Most Venerable Th\u00edch Nh\u01b0 \u0110i\u1ec3n has 45 ordained disciples, many of whom have completed bachelor\u2019s, master\u2019s, and doctoral degrees at reputable universities in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. He also founded the Unified Vietnamese Buddhist Congregation in Germany and established the Association of Vietnamese Students and Overseas Buddhists in Germany between 1978 and 1979. He served as Secretary General of the Unified Vietnamese Buddhist Congregation of Germany until 2003 and is currently Secretary General of the Unified Vietnamese Buddhist Congregation of Europe. Additionally, he is a member of the Dharma Propagation Board of the World Buddhist Sangha Council (WBSC), which comprises 36 member countries and is headquartered in Taiwan.<\/span><\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n
