COMMENTARY ON THE MEANING OF MY \u2018IN GOOD COMPANY\u2019 SONG<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

\u25c6\u25cf\u2550\u2550\u2550\u2550\u25c6\u25c7\u25c6\u00a0\u2550\u2550\u2550\u2550\u00a0\u25cf\u25c6\u25cf<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018In Good Company\u2019 is a Dharma song I wrote in 2002 about Interdependency, Inter-connectedness, Unity and Unveiling Buddha-Nature. The song appears on both the Fearless CD and the Birth of the Buddha CD that I recorded with Dharma brother Roger McLachlan in 2004 and 2010 respectively.<\/span><\/p>\n

The song can be understood on an obvious level by taking the words and expression literally, as well as on a deeper level.<\/span><\/p>\n

Here’s a very brief explanation of the hidden meaning of these words:<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Trying to put my mind at ease\u2019 – Practise meditation, and develop one-pointed concentration and non-attachment;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018And ready to please\u2019 – Develop and practise compassion and loving-kindness;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018But all these things that get me high\u2019 – All things that appear to give pleasure;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Are only things just passing by\u2019 – Such things are impermanent, constantly changing;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018So why do I care for these things at all\u2019 – So why remain attached to that which is impermanent and constantly changing;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018So let this sweet life unveil\u2019 – Practise non-attachment;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018To reveal its many hidden tales\u2019 – Live in the present;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018How we came to be\u2019 – Understand the universal law of karma;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Like this and that, and that and me\u2019 – Understand the law of interdependent origination;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019m sure that we\u2019d all agree\u2019 – We are all related and interconnected;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Life is like an endless sea\u2019 – Understand cyclic existence;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Into which we set sail, together, free\u2019 – Help each other to be free from cyclic existence;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Oh oh oh, Living in good company\u2019 – May we all attain Enlightenment;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018I ask myself why\u2019 – There is no self or other;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Why do we bother with this time at all\u2019 – Realise the ultimate truth of Emptiness;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018We should let this sweet life unveil\u2019 – Practise non-attachment;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018It will reveal so many hidden tales\u2019 – Live in the present;<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2018Of how we came to be\u2019 – Understand the universal law of karma;<\/span><\/p>\n
