MIND & ACTIVITIES OF THE MIND

“If we observe our mind and the activities of our mind, we will clearly see that our thoughts, feelings and emotions, and mental impulses are constantly changing. One thought leading to another thought, and so on and so forth.

The only reason that they appear to be constant is because we habitually remain attached to them. The more intense they are, the more intensely we remain attached to them.

Furthermore, due to them being impermanent, they have no permanent self nature. So why do we attach to that which is impermanent and has no permanent self nature? It is merely because of our habitual tendency to do so. So let’s work diligently and joyfully to free our mind from this unhelpful and often harmful habit.

The more we free our mind from attachment to our thoughts, feelings and emotions, and mental impulses, the more it becomes natural to do so, and the more we will experience peace of mind and contentment.

So let’s relinquish the habit of attachment. It is merely like a dream, a movie and illusion anyway.
May your mind be free of attachment. May you be peaceful and content.”

MEANINGFUL & WORTHWHILE

“If we sincerely and wholeheartedly practise the Dharma, moment to moment, day to day, then every moment can be a joyful moment and every day can be a joyful day.

When we sincerely and wholeheartedly practise Dharma in this human life, our life becomes a ‘precious human life’, as we will be making the most of this rare and precious opportunity.

We should constantly remind ourselves that we now possess a most valuable, priceless and precious human birth. This will help us to maintain the inner-strength, confidence, joy and enthusiasm we need to take full advantage of this rare opportunity.

We should be careful not to waste our lives by being distracted by superficial worldly concerns, so that we can emulate the great sages and masters of the past, and truly believe, with confidence, that we can follow in their footsteps and make our lives truly meaningful and worthwhile.”
