Be The Water On A Flame, Not Fuel

BE THE WATER ON A FLAME, NOT FUEL

“Just as water will put out a fire, whenever awkwardness, disagreement or problems arise when we are communicating with others, we should be the solution to the problem. Be the cause of peace and understanding.

Just as we should avoid adding fuel to a fire, because it would make the fire worse, we should avoid adding to any awkwardness, disagreement or problems that arise when we are communicating with others. Not be the cause of further conflict and misunderstanding.

Sometimes we can simply agree to disagree. Peacefully.

We should also do likewise when dealing with our own mind. When unwholesome thoughts or attitudes arise in our mind, eradicate them, let them go, avoid adding to them.

Add the pure water of wisdom, non-attachment and loving-kindness, and put out the impure flames of ignorance, greed and anger. Purify your mind and all will be well.”
